More than 50% of survey respondents viewed PR as an exciting job with many highlighting the roles of event planning and socializing.
Social pages have become very important in local newspapers. Do you think they play a vital role in promoting a company? Why? Why not?
In your opinion, do such promotions have any impact on consumers? How?

I wouldn't say it plays a vital role but it certainly doesn't hurt to see representatives of a given company out and about. PR isn't only about the business, it is also about self; for example Chairmen and CEO's are often perceived to be "all about the work" and unapproachable so seeing them as social beings may have a humanizing effect and appeal more positively to the consumers cognition.
ReplyDeletewell Nikolaus you're certainly lauding those social pages..can't say i disagree...
ReplyDeleteIt is very important for consumers to connect with companies on a casual level, especially those that provide services. Thats why companies strive for that mileage you get from giving back to the people who keep your business alive.
As a small business owner I have to say the milage you get from the socialpages et al doesn't hurt. But that's the drty little secret isn't it? We are supposed to pretend that the candit shots we see on page two, are actually that, candid, and we surely didn't stop to pose for the Gleaner photographer we knew full well to be there.
ReplyDeleteAfter all to pose for a pic would seem, well, smug. But, to be caught unawares at a chariatble function with the ladedah set does shine a good light on you, and the philanthropic activities of your staff when nobobody is looking. Thusly, ingratiating yourself to the very public, you didn't know, would ever know you were there.
The pages promote the same companies and the same people. Also the people they promote are not often a representation of the average Jamaican.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the average Jamaican cares if the owner of Lasco was at the 50th birthday of Scotia's manager ...i don't know if that would encourage them to remain loyal Lasco customers or open a scotia account. Seems to be more for staying in person's business than anything else.
